I am always on the lookout for a good deal on a bed! Especially because they’re not an every year kind of purchase. I usually purchase a bed when I am doing a major renovation or home decor change! That being said, I still like to keep my eye out for quality finds on sale. Most of my favorite retailers like Wayfair, Target, Walmart, Serena and Lily, and even the Home Depot carry beds that I love! I change up my headboards more than my bed frame, especially as my taste continues to grow and evolve.

If you’re trying to decide when to replace your bed frame, here’s a few metrics to go by. Wooden bed frames typically need to be replaced every 7 - 10 years. Metal bed frames need last a bit longer and need to be replaced every 15 years. If you hear a creaking noises, or your bed is sinking in the middle, it might be time to change out your bed frame.

When choosing a style for my bed, there are a couple things I keep in mind before putting the issue to bed. The first one is undoubtedly the functionality of my headboard. I consider where it’s going. Is it going in a bedroom with a TV or with someone who might like to read? I do a lot of both of those things, so I like to look at upholstered headboards, so it’s comfortable to rest my head! But, if my headboard is going in a room is not used as often, like my guest room, I might consider a pick more for it’s style. I also consider things like storage. Some beds come with built in drawers or hidden compartments, so I would look to those if you need to find extra space!

Headboards are usually the focal point of the bedroom, so definitely choose one that is cohesive with the overall style you are going for. If your style is more modern, you will want to consider headboards with cleaner, linear lines. I usually gear toward those for gender neutral spaces. If you’re wanting a more feminine look and feel, then choose a style with more curved lines.

There really are so many styles of beds to choose from. You can choose to use an upholstered headboard, a wooden headboard, a metal headboard, a headboard and a footboard, a platform bed… the sky is the limit! In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite beds from places like Wayfair, Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Serena and Lily, and William Sonoma. I even found a few on Amazon that I really like! Lately, I am loving the wood and cane look, so I’ve highlighted quite a few of those in budget friendly, neutral styles. I hope you find one to save for when you’re ready to change your space!

Upholstered Beds

Below are my favorite picks for upholstered headboards! If you’re shopping for an upholstered headboard with tufting on it, be sure to consider how tightly woven it is. This tufted upholstered headboard from Target is a great example. You can also opt to go for a bed with a higher footboard, like this bed from Wayfair. It’s a bit on the pricier end, but when you consider that it comes with a headboard, footboard, and center supports, the price is well worth it! For an affordable and stylish upholstered headboard/footboard combo, check out this one. You can shop any of the styles below by clicking on the image!

Wood & Cane Beds

Wood and cane beds are an absolute classic look. I love the combination styles with woven elements like this one from Pottery Barn for a super light, coastal feel. You can also opt for a more traditional style head and footboard combination like this platform style one from World Market.

headboards

If you’re looking to make a style impact for less, you can opt to just change out your headboard. Here are a few of my favorite styles! If you’re not ready for a big change, you can always opt for fresh bedding instead. Here are a few of my favorite bedding picks from Amazon.

If you’re looking for some fresh design ideas, here are some bedroom inspiration mood boards! While a bed may feel like a big commitment, remember that you spend (hopefully) eight hours every single day there! It’s worth it to find something you really love that brings you joy.
