Accent chairs have the beautiful ability to tie a room together. But when designing a living room or even a bedroom, the main focus tends to go towards larger furniture like sofas, dressers, cabinets or pieces that you’re more willing to invest your money into. These pieces typically become the focal point of a room. Accent chairs may not be your first thought when it comes to making a statement in a space (which is probably why it’s hard to invest in them), but they definitely can be!

There are so many possibilities when it comes to accent chairs—endless styles, colors, patterns and materials to choose from. If you need a pop of color or want to spark some interest in your living room with an eccentric pattern, consider incorporating an accent chair. I have sorted through all my favorites in an array of different styles like modern, swivel, sets of two and more, and am sharing some tips on how to pair accent chairs as well so you can seamlessly incorporate them into your space.

Below you’ll find great options for every budget and style!

Accent Chairs by Style

Whether you have extra room, an awkwardly shaped space or a nook to fill, or you want to have extra seating handy when guests come over, accent chairs can solve all of the above. The chairs you see in my photo above turned a little extra space in a bedroom into a cozy lounge area thanks to a set of these chairs! Depending on your style, you might lean toward modern accent chairs with clean lines, deep, cozy chairs, or small chairs that serve more as a decorative accent with the bonus of adding occasional seating when necessary. Below are some of the most common types…

contemporary Accent Chairs

Let’s start with contemporary accent chairs… These usually have a nice structure to them, whether its striking angles or dramatic curves. They are right at home with more minimalist, modern and midcentury-modern style interiors. White, cream, and tan are popular colors, though you can add contrast with wooden or metal legs. Most of the modern accent chairs below are in the $300 range, especially those from Target. They have so many chairs under $400 that look much more expensive! If you’re looking for more of a high end design, West Elm and Anthropologie are my go-tos when it comes to contemporary accents. Click the arrows below to shop chairs in this category!

Leather Chairs

A leather chair can add textural interest to a space, especially when used as an accent to contrast with other upholstery styles. They also tend to give a room a more luxe, elevated feel.

SETS OF 2 ACCENT CHAIRS

Should you purchase accent chairs alone or as a set? Purchasing a set of two can be more cost effective and convenient than searching for different pieces that flow together well. They add consistency throughout a home, whether you use them both side-by-side or facing one another in a traditional family room, or choose to keep them in separate spaces entirely. Matching sets can work both in formal spaces and cozy nooks.

Swivel and Small Accent Chairs

I also love finding the perfect single piece, like a square, swivel, or side chair to add to a space for a more complementary look! The small chairs below are perfect for adding an extra seat to a small area.

Accent Chairs Under $600

Lastly, here are some of my top finds under $600. These neutral beauties are sure to elevate any space. Many of these upholstered accent chairs are swivel for ease. Several of these chairs are from Amazon, but you will also find accent chairs from Target, Wayfair, and Macy’s in this mix.
